Hello!
In our development plan / building design regulations, the following paragraph appears regarding roof shapes:
I would like to build an offset shed roof because I really like it, but I’m not sure how to meet the conditions described above. In particular, I am wondering how such an offset can be used for energy-saving measures. So far, I haven’t found any information online that explains a connection here. The only thing that comes to mind is that windows in the offset could let light and thus heat from the southern side into the northern half of the house. Or are there other possibilities?
On the north side of the house in the attic, we are currently planning the two children’s rooms. To allow light from such windows into these rooms, they would need to extend up to the gable. Wouldn’t that be counterproductive in terms of heating demand?
In our development plan / building design regulations, the following paragraph appears regarding roof shapes:
Offset shed roofs are permitted as an exception if
a) functional reasons (e.g., energy-saving measures), especially regarding the placement of windows in the offset
justify this
and
b) the offset, measured up to the top edge of the roof surface, is limited to 1.20 m (4 feet) or the roof overhang at the offset is limited to a maximum of 0.40 m (16 inches).

The same applies to ensuring sufficient natural lighting for the rooms located beneath the roof windows.
The only thing I can think of is that the offset windows could allow light and therefore heat from the southern direction to enter the northern half of the house. Or are there other possibilities?
