Hello everyone,
I need your expertise regarding bathroom fittings, specifically Steinberg.
We really like the chrome fittings for the washbasin (concealed installation – Series 135 or 280) and the bathtub (rim-mounted 160) from Steinberg. However, I have read relatively little and not necessarily positive feedback about their quality, which makes me a bit uncertain. Steinberg itself only mentions a brief "Made in Germany" statement on their website and prefers to focus on the appealing design.
In a forum and elsewhere, I have also read that some production takes place in China, reportedly not in the best quality, and that customer service as well as availability of spare parts are not core strengths of Steinberg.
Now I am unsure whether these are just isolated opinions or if I might have to tear open my walls again after a relatively short period because the fittings fail. Defective fittings can happen elsewhere too, but of course I want to minimize the risk as much as possible.
Is anyone here more familiar with this manufacturer? Would I be better off with Hansgrohe (currently in focus for the shower) or a higher-end Grohe series? Or are they all on a similar level, and there is no need to worry?
Thank you very much for your opinions 🙂

In a forum and elsewhere, I have read that production does take place in China, Are you aware that Hansgrohe manufactures not only in France and Germany but also in China? Grohe, for example, can also come from Thailand. Arwa (part of the Similor Group) produces, like KWC, probably only in Switzerland. Ideal Standard and Dornbracht, to my knowledge, manufacture exclusively in Germany; Hansa in Germany, the Czech Republic, and Poland; Kludi in Europe.

Ideal Standard and Dornbracht, as far as I know, manufacture exclusively in Germany; Hansa in Germany, the Czech Republic, and Poland; Kludi in Europe. But that wasn’t really the main point. The key issue was (and the sentence you quoted continued and in my reply to Pagoni I tried to make this even clearer) the quality of Steinberg products. Whether they are acceptable or if I might be inviting trouble.
I’m not specifically focused on China, as I have plenty of Chinese-made items at home that work perfectly well.

Whether it is acceptable or if I am setting myself up for problems. My answer is yes – I cannot judge if complaints and replacement parts will still be available after 20 years. However, in each case, they have worked just as well as other brands for several years in two different properties.

What I don’t like is when someone writes "made in Germany" but then has the product manufactured elsewhere.Back when it really meant "all parts made in Germany," the EU was still called the EEC and the Chancellor was Adenauer.https://www.instagram.com/11antgmxde/

hampshire2 Dec 2021 10:56We have been using the Steinberg 100 series in matte black for 2 years. Visually, I still find them excellent, and I have no complaints regarding their functionality. The black coating is not very durable. On two mixers, there are spots along one edge where the underlying material is visible, as if the mixer handle is scraping somewhere with careless use. This is so discreet that it does not affect the appearance and is acceptable to me, but it also indicates that the quality is not top-tier. Considering the very reasonable prices compared to other matte black fittings, this remains within my expected range. Therefore, I would not describe the finish quality as premium.
