Good morning everyone,

my husband and I can’t agree on what type of staircase we want in our new build. He prefers steel, while I lean more towards wood...

Are there any advantages or disadvantages? What do you like better? I’m worried that a steel staircase might look too much like a medical office, while he’s concerned that a wooden staircase might look too much like a country house. It’s really difficult...

What are your opinions?
Best regards!

Good morning,
unfortunately, the photo is not very clear, but in my opinion it does not look like a doctor's office:

Modern staircase with wooden steps on the left, railing; open living room in the background

We are happy with the combination of steel and wood.

Yes, I also really like something like that... I even find the steel beams attractive...
But we have a quarter-turn staircase... It runs straight at the bottom and then turns 90 degrees to the right at the top. I just can’t quite picture it that well...

If you enter "steel staircase 1/4 turn" in Google image search, you will find many examples of all kinds of quarter-turn stairs with steel stringers and wooden treads. Steel can also be finished in various colors, for example by powder coating.

This can be combined in many ways, including the design of the handrail, etc. This way, it doesn’t end up looking like a country house or a medical practice. It’s best to see something like this in person at a staircase specialist.
I also initially wanted a complete wooden staircase, but now the railing is made of steel.
