Everything on our end has been significantly delayed.
Originally, we planned to start construction in August, but for various reasons, that didn’t work out.
Now, we finally have the first site meeting with the construction manager scheduled for next week.
However, I have concerns about whether it makes sense to start building at this time of year. Maybe it would be better to wait until spring?
We are building a solid masonry house with a basement. My worry is that if the weather turns bad and the roof isn’t finished by Christmas, a lot of water and frost could affect the building materials over the winter.
What do you think? Should we start now or wait?
We are not under any time pressure.

We are scheduled to start in three weeks, so a bit later than you. How long do you plan to spend on the shell construction? Four to six weeks and the structure will be up, the roof might take about a week longer. I don’t see any reason to delay. Especially, delay until when? March? The chances of unfavorable weather conditions are much higher then than before Christmas. [emoji6]

I also asked our architect, and he said the only limiting factor is temperatures below 5°C (41°F) when applying the plaster. Otherwise, since real winters are rare here in NRW (and if they occur, they are expected from January onwards), work continues as usual.
I really hope we can still make progress this year 🙂

Here in Saxony-Anhalt, construction is expected to start within the next 3 weeks. The architect and construction manager aim to complete the building envelope (roof, windows) by the end of the year. We’ll see if that works out. Regarding the slab foundation, he said it will be poured on Friday, left to cure over the weekend, and then work will continue.
