First of all: I’m not very knowledgeable about electrical systems and wiring. That’s why we left everything to the contractor. When we built the house, we hired a general contractor who selected all the trades. We trusted that they knew what they were doing...
Since we moved into our newly built single-family home in 2017, we have always had issues with the motion sensors (MS) in the stairwell.
We have 13 LED lights (6 for the upper floor, 7 for the basement) connected to three motion sensors (one each on the upper floor, main floor, and basement).
The problem is that the lights don’t turn off again. When you walk past the sensor, the clicking sometimes sounds different. You can basically tell “it’s about to not switch off.” After a few days, the lights do turn off eventually, but when it gets dark again in the evening, the sensors act up and don’t switch off.
According to the electrician from the general contractor, these sensors tend to fail quickly. That’s why one was occasionally replaced during the first two years. However, the issue kept recurring. Then they said they didn’t know where the problem was.
I then disconnected the sensor in the basement, and it worked for about a year without problems. But for a few months now, one sensor is acting up again.
I took a closer look myself...
We are using the Legrand Valena Life (752073) 3-wire motion sensors. When I check the description on Elektroland online, it says “Only intended for single operation (no parallel connection of sensors possible).”
Apparently it is possible, but maybe that’s the reason why these devices fail or don’t work properly.
There is also the 752172 model from Legrand, but the description states “max. 2 in parallel.” And this one is only 2-wire.
Now the questions:
1. In my opinion, it’s not possible (or at least not without problems) to operate the mentioned sensors in a 3-way parallel connection.
2. Can you recommend a motion sensor to use instead?
3. 2-wire or 3-wire? We have 3-wire installed with three wires connected, so I assume 3-wire is correct...

I suspect that the capacitive load of the LED lamps used is too high, causing the contacts to burn out.
However, the parallel connection could also be an issue.
But the electrician should know that, right?!

Between us: the electricians weren’t the sharpest. They even connected the phase wire to the green-yellow ground wire on some roller shutters, and I wondered why I was having such trouble connecting the roller shutter motors... We reported all of this, but that’s another story.
If the capacitive load is too high, is it possible to prevent the device from burning out by adding a capacitor in series?
