Hello forum community,
I am currently struggling with the decision whether to install a proper stair railing that also provides fall protection or to go with an attractive handrail on my staircase.
In the Dropbox link, you can see how it looks at the moment.

I think a small, delicate handrail or a cable along the wall looks better, but what happens if someone falls?
The stairs lead to a living area; there are no children yet.

I look forward to many suggestions and opinions.

Modern floating staircase with dark steps in a bright hallway, glossy floor tiles.

The Dropbox link probably didn’t work. Just upload the photo here in the post using the "Upload File" button. It’s much more practical anyway.

Left mouse button / "Open image in new tab" not working?
Here is the file.

Well, if children are planned, this question is irrelevant anyway.
It looks good without it... but even I, with some age-related issues in my legs and feet, would feel a bit uncomfortable there.

I would wait to see if a child will actually move into the house or if you feel safe without any protection.

Best regards

I would suggest installing a fall protection barrier on the left side and a handrail on the wall to the right. I’m also surprised that this was planned and built without any safety measures in place. Retrofitting them later tends to be quite complex...

I would have a railing installed. No matter how old you are, you can always trip or lose your balance, and it’s helpful to have something to hold onto.

Best regards,
