Hello,
we have a straight staircase that is bordered on one side by a fixed-glass window and on the other side opens to the room. The height to be covered is 2.60 meters (8.5 feet).
The open side will be fitted with stepped glass panels. However, on the other side, there is a gap of 18 cm (7 inches) between the window and the wall/staircase.
Should we consider adding a second handrail, or is the gap too large?
Alternatively, are there affordable temporary railings or bars that can be installed and later removed (for when the children are older)?

It probably will be, but there is the window reveal and the actual glass pane will be recessed by about 18 cm (7 inches), so it will also have that distance from the staircase. Correct, the staircase is flush with the wall; the gap is only between the window and the wall/staircase. It shouldn't swing, it won’t be a single stringer like in the photo, but rather a mounted stringer staircase with risers and a stepped glass railing. We’ll ask for price quotes and depending on that, either secure it to the window or have a railing on both sides.
The opening upwards is relatively large, so they can position it somewhat centrally.
