ᐅ Staircase Lighting – Which Options Would You Recommend?

Hello everyone,

I am currently marking all the electrical boxes and switches. Now I have reached the staircase and was wondering whether a standard 60mm (2.4 inches) electrical box for the lighting should be installed there or if something special is needed. I looked around online but didn’t find a clear answer. Either the lighting looks cheap or it is very expensive (over 100 euros per piece).

Do you have any recommendations for me? I am also open to some kind of downlight.

For the stair treads?

Stairs are usually quite expensive, mainly due to the labor involved. You have to work very, very precisely, and it is also a lot of effort, especially if, for example, every other step is supposed to have a light.

At a friend’s place, I once saw a "light strip" instead of individual spotlights, which ran almost the entire length of the (straight) staircase. Could that be an alternative for you? However, I don't remember the cost.

Of course, it’s a lot of work but not rocket science. Chiseling channels into the wall, drilling holes for the boxes, installing cables and fixtures – done. All of this, of course, done with care and precise accuracy!

I have the same plan but haven’t found the right lamps yet. For me, the lamp should look as subtle and unobtrusive as possible. Also, the light source should be replaceable. Ideally, it would even be dimmable (but that’s not a must).

I’m not a big fan of those Google-eBay LED recessed lights. They are usually ugly plastic units that need to be completely replaced when the components fail.

I’m looking for lamps with a discreet recessed frame (white), a GU10 socket, and “downward shining” light… something along those lines.

Of course, it’s not rocket science, but you shouldn’t be surprised by prices of 100€ per piece.

I still think 100€ per piece is way too much. My limit would be around 20 to 30€ per lamp, just going by gut feeling. Of course, I will do the installation myself.
