Hello everyone,

In a few days, we have the staircase selection appointment. On the stair builder’s website, there are layout proposals for the staircase. We have allocated 3.04 meters by 2.25 meters (10 feet by 7 feet) for the staircase area. You can find the house floor plan here in the forum at the following link.

The stair supplier suggests 16 steps for the space online. Here in the forum, 15 steps are mentioned. So I wanted to ask for your opinion again: 15 or 16 steps?

Maybe someone has a similar amount of space for their staircase in their house with either 15 or 16 steps.

What is the floor-to-floor height?
Common practice is a riser height of less than 18.5cm (7.3 inches) and a tread depth of more than 26cm (10.2 inches). With today’s ceiling heights plus floor layers, this usually results in 16 steps.

The floor-to-ceiling height should be 2.92 meters (9 feet 7 inches), right? See also the image.

When I recalculate the planned staircase, I arrive at 16 steps (0.1825 m (7.2 inches) / 0.255 m (10 inches)).

The tread depth is not really generous. Rather too small. You need 3.16 m (10.4 feet) length for the staircase. Or you increase the tread overlap per step by 15 mm (0.6 inches). However, this would not be very comfortable for walking down.
