Hello,
I want to install stainless steel water pipes in the new build.
We have hard water, pH value 7.67.
What are the disadvantages of stainless steel apart from the cost, the more complex installation, and possible nickel content?
Best regards, Peter

I wouldn’t do it. V2A stainless steel can suffer from pitting corrosion in pipes with flow, especially with warm water. V4A grades are more reliable but very, very expensive. PVC pipes are safe, affordable, and easy to install. Why insist on stainless steel? K.

I might be mistaken, but aren’t stainless steel pipes with press fittings (e.g., Mapress) always made of V4A stainless steel?

Off the top of my head, I can’t think of any disadvantages except for the higher cost due to the greater material value and the more complex installation.

It’s strange that you’re asking about the disadvantages but don’t seem to be interested in the advantages.

Both VA qualities are available for sale. It might be that 4A is more common and definitely more reliable. But why!
PE pipes are good anyway.

Some people prefer to avoid plastic.
Stainless steel is more durable.

You might like it. Some people simply prefer to spend a little more on a higher-quality material. Whether it is really necessary is something everyone has to decide for themselves.
