Hello everyone,

This year, we are heating our house entirely with split air conditioning units for the first time. So far, it is working very well.
Now, I am wondering whether to turn off the units when ventilating or leave them running.
We do shock ventilation 3-4 times a day, each time for about 5 minutes. Since the indoor air temperature naturally drops sharply during this time, the air conditioners immediately start blowing warm air strongly. Within 10 minutes, the rooms reach the set temperature again.

From an energy consumption perspective, it obviously makes sense to turn off the units during those 5 minutes. After all, that is what you do with regular radiator thermostats as well.
But what about air conditioning units? Is it problematic to switch them off briefly and then switch them on again?

How do others who use air conditioning for heating handle this?

Best regards,
Simon

Every compressor start causes wear, so this aspect actually speaks in favor of continuous operation. On the other hand, the energy costs are probably not significant.

Turning off radiators is, in my opinion, nonsense and due to a lack of technical understanding. Even if the valve is closed, hot water remains in the radiator and still loses energy. This energy loss is likely only slightly less during the 5 minutes of ventilation than if the valve were open and fresh water continuously flowed in during those 5 minutes. Ventilating itself is already annoying enough, but turning a dozen radiators off and on every time just to save 2°C (3.6°F)...
