ᐅ Splash guard above countertop

Hello,

who doesn’t have a splash guard above their countertop? For us, for aesthetic reasons, there is only a splash guard planned above/behind the stove; above/behind the sink there is a window. Otherwise, there is just a wipe strip, and above that, the wall is wallpapered with fleece and painted.
I’m wondering: do people regret that? Or is it better to just try it out and possibly add a splash guard later?
To those who don’t have any: does your wall still look okay? And to those who, for example, have painted with a thick protective paint (elephant skin): how does that look (compared to regular paint)? We have an open kitchen and I can’t really imagine where you would make a transition…

Thanks for your experiences and recommendations!

Works great and initially has a slight gloss. Glass splashback behind the stove and the rest coated with elephant hide.

There is also matte latex paint available. We originally had a (colored) regular paint behind the sink, but it didn’t last long. We repainted with matte latex (also tinted), and that works wonderfully.

On the cooktop of the (half-depth) island, there is nothing—no splash problems have occurred so far.
