Hello everyone,

who already has a drawer for spices in the kitchen and can give me some advice?

The kitchen is basically fully planned. I can decide whether I want a 15 cm (6 inch) or a 30 cm (12 inch) high drawer for spices under the cooktop.
With 15 cm (6 inches), you don’t really have a full 15 cm (6 inches) of usable height inside, more like 12-13 cm (5-5.1 inches).
(Nolte kitchen)
I have a lot of spices that are not part of any system or brand, so they come in very different containers. (I don’t want to lay the spice jars on their sides.)

If I choose the 15 cm (6 inch) drawer, some of the larger spice grinders and big shaker jars for dried herbs would probably need to go in a cabinet next to it.
That would work, but I would really like to open one drawer and immediately see everything I might want to use in an overview.
If the drawer were 30 cm (12 inches) high, there would definitely be space for all sizes, but a lot of the height would be wasted.

Good luck

I understand 'willWohnen' already. When your body has been used for a few years, it already hurts at 1.61 m (5 ft 3 in).

I’m not just a few years old... So, osteoarthritis is definitely familiar to me, I know about back problems, and after half a year with a foot injury, now it’s the knees’ turn *complaining in the wrong forum* And if someone here says that 50 cm (20 inches) next to the bed is enough, I turn off the computer because it’s time to clean my reading glasses.
But no: when it comes to a drawer, you don’t bend or stoop. You support yourself with your left hand on the countertop and pull it out with the right, keeping your back straight (just tried it).

However, everyone has to develop their own sense of what feels right for their kitchen.

Hello @ypg, now you're confusing me— which 50cm (20 inches) next to the bed are you referring to??

Well, the walking space next to the bed in the bedroom: some determined health-conscious DIY enthusiasts in home design are often too stingy with what they consider unnecessary space on either side of the bed – but 10 years later, they regret it when, as they become less mobile, they can’t even rest while sitting on the edge of the bed.

If you want to fit a lot into drawers, you might want to reconsider choosing Nolte. There are manufacturers like Schüller or Häcker that offer a cabinet body height of 78 cm (31 inches) with 2 drawers and 2 pull-outs. The drawers then have a front height of 13 cm (5 inches), the pull-outs 26 cm (10 inches). Alternatively, there are even taller pull-outs with a front height of 39 cm (15 inches).

Key points are
- 6 grid system
- storage planning
- cabinet body heights
- dead corners vs. useful corners

I personally have a total of 590 cm (232 inches) of pure drawer width. That consists of 3 drawers at 80 cm (31 inches) wide, 8 drawers at 40 cm (16 inches) wide, and 1 drawer at 30 cm (12 inches) wide. In my drawers, I can neatly store items at one level without piling, such as cups, serving plates, shot glasses, kitchen machine accessories, wraps, plastic bags, knives, all kitchen utensils, cooking spoons, spices, cutlery, and so on.
