Hello,

at the moment, it unfortunately doesn’t make sense to sow grass seed.
When do you think would be the right time to establish our lawn?

Best regards

Horsetail can only be controlled by mowing it down repeatedly. So, water the lawn, fertilize it, mow it, mow it again—ideally twice a week using a mulching mower, a robotic mower, or even the traditional reel mower. This way, the horsetail will soon be suppressed by the grass and will retreat. It’s similar with thistles and dandelions, although they are more persistent and sometimes require the Fiskars weed puller, a great invention.

And what do you do with horsetail in the garden bed? Mowing is not an option. Digging it out can be really intense since the roots go very deep. Pulling it out by hand is completely useless, and no chemical treatments work.

If you have only a few individual plants, make a tincture using Vorox, which contains glyphosate and also controls horsetail, or alternatively use products from Neudorf or Roundup with water. Use a small paintbrush to apply it to the horsetail leaves. This will kill only the horsetail, while the surrounding plants will remain unaffected.
Otherwise, the only solution is to uproot them; sorry, I don’t have any magic tricks for that. Karsten

We sowed on June 1st, and now, two months later, it is green and thriving. However, we only had just over 200 m² (2,150 sq ft) to water; the rest is our vegetable garden.

Assuming you seeded the 200 sqm (2,150 sq ft) with one type of grass seed and not two different ones, you can clearly see different soil qualities in the photo. In the areas where the grass looks lighter and thinner, feel free to apply a few handfuls of fertilizer, such as a balanced NPK fertilizer. Be careful not to use too much, and it's best to do this shortly before it rains.

Do you really see the color difference? Unfortunately, I have a severe red-green color blindness. The lawn has already been fertilized once.

What also surprises me is that it grows at very different rates.

We spread a topsoil substrate. Mixing was probably only done by the supplier and during distribution with the wheelbarrow.
