Hello,
we are building a bungalow with a nationwide home construction company. The rough electrical installation and interior plastering are complete, and the heating engineer will be coming in the next few days. The house and interior walls are built with perforated bricks and are 24 cm (9.5 inches) thick. The ceiling consists of the bottom chords of the engineered roof trusses, to which the vapor retarder has been attached on the underside. Above the vapor retarder, mineral wool insulation is installed between the bottom chords. Below the vapor retarder, aluminum profiles are fixed, onto which drywall panels will be mounted later. The drywall panels will be permanently and elastically bonded to the interior plaster on the walls. However, the vapor retarder continues through several rooms, so there is a few centimeters (inches) of air space above the interior walls between the ring beam and the vapor retarder. I am wondering if this might cause problems with sound insulation later on. Therefore, I am considering insulating these gaps with mineral wool before installing the drywall panels. Is this advisable? What should be considered? I could either do it myself or ask the drywall contractor to do it.
