Hello everyone,

A quick and straightforward question about sound insulation for our attic conversion. The attic is constructed with a wooden truss system. Since the attic will be divided by a party wall between apartments, it’s unavoidable that a beam (about 10 cm (4 inches) in diameter) will run vertically through the soundproofing wall. We have planned the wall structure as follows:

Double-layered Knauf Diamant boards
75 mm (3 inches) profile rail
Foam rubber strip
75 mm (3 inches) profile rail
Double-layered Knauf Diamant boards

Currently, the attic floor consists only of floorboards, which will remain in place and be covered with a flowing screed (structurally no problem for the wooden beams). The dividing wall will reach up to the underside of these floorboards, and the ceiling below will be traditionally suspended and filled with mineral wool insulation.

Please let me know briefly if this construction makes sense from a soundproofing perspective. Whether we can improve anything or if this setup should work adequately. Thank you very much.
