Hello,

I would like to reduce the humming noise from our ground source heat pump in the utility room. This humming can be heard outside the utility room.

1) Should I better insulate the heat pump itself or the walls of the utility room?

2) Depending on the approach, which materials are suitable for sound insulation? I was thinking of Basotect foam?

Good luck, F

If you had read the installation manual once, you would see that it recommends installing a soundproofing mat on the opposite wall and behind the heat pump to reduce noise.

Can’t you take action yourself?

Why does that need insulation? Is that a special type of heat pump? Normally, they are quieter than a refrigerator.

Actually a good heat recovery ventilator, but they are often installed in regular rooms without a soundproof door.

It should be a soundproof door.
