Hello everyone,

I hope to get some information and suggestions on the topic of soundproofing.
I am a complete beginner and apologize in advance if I don't know the technical terms and have to describe things in my own words. 🙂

To keep it brief:
I live in a 3-room apartment and want to soundproof my bedroom as much as possible against noise (impact noise, music). The effort doesn’t matter to me... but I want it to be as effective and affordable as possible!

The weak point in the apartment is the ceiling... it is porous... I believe it’s made of just beams and rubble, so no anchors really hold.

I am thinking about installing a suspended ceiling, as I had a good experience with this in my living room after a water damage repair. The ceiling there was repaired, or rather suspended, and since then there has been a clear improvement in the sound transmission from the upstairs neighbor. The drywall installer was very quick: used Knauf Piano GKF and simple double-layered mineral wool insulation... along the walls Aluminum profile rails. Now I have read that there are huge (price) differences when it comes to the boards and the insulation (wool).

Since I had good results with this concept, I want to apply it in the bedroom as well... naturally optimized! Would it make a difference (and I am only interested in soundproofing):

1.) Instead of using one layer of drywall boards, applying two layers?
2.) Are there differences between the boards? (Knauf Piano; Rigips "The Blue"... etc.)
3.) Is the very expensive Knauf Silenceboard worth the price, or is it better to use multiple layers of cheaper boards?
4.) Which mineral wool is recommended (Sonorock, Isover SSP2, or just simple wool)?
5.) Is the distance between the ceiling and the insulation important or decisive?

I would really appreciate constructive information and experiences.

Best regards, Stephan
