Steffenah16 Feb 2026 18:33We have a walk-in shower, tiled with black porcelain stoneware. The wall tiles are 30x30 cm (12x12 inches), and the floor is more of a 5x5 cm (2x2 inches) mosaic style.
It’s been in use for several years and has worked perfectly—no mold or leaks.
However, over time, the grout on both the floor and walls has worn down, so I wanted to have a professional company repair it.
The first contractor made the grout too soft. It could be rubbed away easily.
After unsuccessful patching and repair attempts, we changed companies.
The new technician took everything out again and re-grouted using Sopro Design Flex grout.
The wall grout lines are narrow, about 2.5 mm (0.1 inches).
The floor grout lines are wider, around 5 mm (0.2 inches).
The issue I’m now facing is this:
When the grout is wet, it becomes quite dark, and if I lightly wipe over it with a towel, black streaks appear on the towel.
The tiler says this is just excess pigment that will settle over time.
However, I’m really worried the grout might still be too soft.
He now wants to treat it with some kind of pad to remove the excess. Does anyone know about this?
It was almost impossible to find a tiler willing to do the grout removal work, and I understand there are risks involved.
I’m exhausted just thinking about having to open everything up a third time.
We’ve had no proper bathroom for weeks, and I’ve been showering elsewhere.
I’m completely worn out.
