hi,

there is a fixed carpet in my bedroom that is very worn out and no longer looks good. now I want to remove this carpet and install a wooden floor. my question is whether I should choose solid wood planks or engineered wood flooring. do you have any suggestions to help me make this decision easier?

best regards,

Solid wood floorboards

Hello,
whether to choose engineered wood flooring or solid wood floorboards also depends on the subfloor. Floorboards are usually installed on battens (squared timber). This naturally results in a much thicker floor construction. Engineered wood flooring is typically installed as a floating floor (with some exceptions).
The durability and ease of maintenance depend less on the choice between floorboards or engineered wood and more on the type of wood and the surface finish.

Hello,

It is definitely possible to install floorboards as a floating floor without requiring a subfloor, and there are various manufacturers offering this option. The more important question is what looks good and meets your preferences.

Floorboard designs are also available in engineered wood flooring of the same thickness, usually 2- or 3-layer construction. Solid floorboards are typically installed unfinished and need to be sanded and finished after installation, whereas engineered wood and floorboard-look options are ready to use immediately after installation.

It is best to get advice from a local flooring specialist who will be familiar with the subfloor conditions and can show you samples.
