ᐅ Solid wood parquet on underfloor heating

Hello everyone,

Yesterday, we had an appointment at our hardwood flooring studio. We were recommended a solid hardwood floor from the company ALI Parquets. It is supposed to be fully glued down.

Another supplier recommended a two-layer engineered wood floor from Bauwerk.

Online, you often read that solid hardwood flooring is generally not suitable for underfloor heating. Is that true?

Unfortunately, I can’t find many reliable reviews about either manufacturer. Does anyone happen to have one of these installed in their home?

Best regards

Ok, engineered hardwood flooring naturally doesn’t look good anymore after severe damage. However, I would argue that floating installation might actually perform better in such cases (at least against falling objects), since the plank can flex more. When glued down, it provides a firm resistance, and if the falling object is harder than the wear layer, then the floor surface will take the damage.

You also don’t go with 2.5mm

Exactly... I believe it’s called engineered hardwood flooring, and I have always been focused on glue-down installation. I was just surprised that the floor installer suggested a floating installation because of the subfloor. Like you said... I’m confused. But I won’t look for anyone else now, as I generally have a good feeling about this company. I’ve still received no quote from another after two requests. And I’ve already ruled out the third. So there aren’t many options left, and time is starting to run out.

Now I have a question about the offer itself... 50% of the total amount is due upon acceptance of the offer, 30% at the start of construction, and the remaining 20% at the end. Isn’t that too much, or is it common practice in the flooring industry? I had heard of 30%, 30%, and 20%. But if I already pay 80% before a single stroke of work has been done, what can I do if, for example, the work is not carried out properly?

The heating load of the room always remains the same.
The heat storage capacity of the screed with covering is only slightly reduced.
The system becomes slower to heat up because the lower bulk density transfers heat to the air more slowly.
On the other hand, it cools down faster due to the lower storage capacity.

However, underfloor heating is always slow-responding, so we are talking about a slightly slower response here.

Everything else is individual preference, sound insulation, or protection against wood movement.

I probably forgot to mention this... I don’t have underfloor heating.

Then the effect is even positive, as the surface feels less cold.
And if it is also a building connection component, the U-value is further improved, which means there would even be a slight energy saving.

Sorry, due to the heat pump hype, I often automatically assume radiant heating systems, since I rarely calculate with radiators anymore.
