Hello everyone,

We have decided to build a solid timber house.
We now have several offers on hand;

Exterior wall option 1 (very expensive):

100mm solid wood
+ 200mm wood fiberboard
+ 60mm wood fiberboard
= 360mm (14 inches) wall thickness
The provider says this house stays cool and requires hardly any heating in winter.

Exterior wall option 2 (very economical):

100mm solid wood
+ 160mm stud cavity (blown with wood fiber insulation)
+ 40mm wood fiberboard
= 300mm (12 inches) wall thickness
Offered with air-to-water heat pump and underfloor heating

Exterior wall option 3: Lignotrend (mid-range price)

110mm cross-laminated timber ribs
+ chosen stud cavity width (blown with cellulose insulation)

Has anyone had experience with any of these construction methods?
Are there any experts here who would recommend one of these building techniques?

Thank you all

And what kind of surface finishes are planned, or what else will be added on top of that?

This is simply the wall structure – the question is whether it will be loose fill or board insulation?

Does the principle “more wall thickness = more insulation” also apply to wood fiber insulation?

We have a solid wood house.

From inside to outside
Paint + painter’s fleece or tiles
Drywall
150 mm (6 inches) solid wood
300 mm (12 inches) insulation, rejecting Neopor
Reinforcement
Plaster

Passive house

Have a look at wir leben Haus.

It hasn’t been heated for a week. Still under construction. My aunt’s comment: It’s nicely warm, are you heating it a bit?

Exactly, at first glance only a 60mm (2.4 inches) difference – hence the question of how much this changes once plaster, brick veneer, or similar finishes are added.

Hello,
we are currently building a solid wood house using dowel wood construction:
from inside to outside
12.5 mm (0.5 inch) drywall
100 mm (4 inches) wood
13 mm (0.5 inch) OSB used as a wind barrier board
240 mm (9.5 inches) cellulose insulation
60 mm (2.4 inches) wood fiber board
reinforcement and plaster

Greetings and best wishes for the New Year to everyone!
