Good day dear forum,

Since we will soon start building our house without a basement, I have a question about the footing level (on a strip foundation). Attached is a drawing (not to scale). How high would you recommend pouring the top edge of the footing? We need to ensure the appropriate slope away from the house, just like for the driveway... About 17cm (7 inches) of screed will be applied on top of the footing (I think this will be the height of the step at the entrance). I would appreciate any advice you could share on this.

Thank you very much and best regards

Hello everyone,

Thank you very much for your responses! How would you handle the driveway? A driveway with a continuous slope or a slope starting only from the edge of the house toward the street?

Thank you and best regards

Always slope towards the street. I’m not familiar with the requirements from your local development plan, of course, but you are not allowed to drain water towards the neighbor, so the best solution is to direct it to the street. Water pooling would not be ideal, as you also want to avoid puddles.

I wouldn’t go too high. Keep in mind that the screed height will then need to be raised above the entrance threshold, which usually means at least two steps—something you’ll likely regret later. However, this consideration depends on the local water level.
