Hello community,

Has anyone here installed a brine heat pump with underground collectors (trenches 3-4 m (10-13 feet) deep) in a water protection area? Is the effort even worthwhile?

I haven’t done it myself, but the general contractor is assessing it, among other factors, based on the soil survey to determine if it makes sense. About three weeks ago, we found out that our property is located in a water protection zone. However, this designation has only existed for two years, so after we bought the land.

It only makes sense if you have a large enough plot. We have about 200 sqm (2,150 sq ft) of space in front of the house. No trees will be planted there either.

So, have you decided to go with the ground-source heat pump after all?
We have enough space. We still need to plant a tree there. But I don’t think it will affect the collectors.

We definitely want a ground source water-to-water heat pump if possible. Trees and ground collectors don’t go well together. According to the general contractor, permeable paving stones are also needed. If a ground source water-to-water heat pump makes sense for us, the general contractor might install the collectors along the property boundary. But we will discuss that later.
