Hello everyone,

we are building a single-family house with Danwood in the Eifel region. We just received the geotechnical report by email in advance, and to be honest, I don’t really understand it. My professional background is more focused on legal matters, so building a house is completely new territory for me. Maybe one of you could take a look at the attached report and briefly explain what to expect. That would be very kind.

Best regards

Eric

You don’t need to understand this because it’s meant for the civil engineer who knows what to do. So, you have reasonably easy-to-build land without groundwater issues and with some infiltration capacity. You can build without a basement, using either a slab foundation or strip footings. Check which option is more cost-effective for you.

The excavated soil can be suitable for later landscaping in your garden, so don’t just have it all hauled away. Instead, arrange with the civil engineer to handle the site grading at the same time; they will advise you on what can be used and what must be removed. You’re fortunate that the land is suitable for building. Others here have different concerns. Karsten
