Hello everyone,
During the construction phase, I installed 14 Cat7 network cables (two in each corner of the building, plus two hidden in the roof soffit).

I would like to install 14 network cameras powered via PoE. I am looking for suitable software for this purpose.
A small Mini ITX PC is already installed behind the TV in the kitchen. (When the wall was being built, I created a lintel and reserved a 30cm x 30cm (12in x 12in) opening, finished with a plastered Wedi board.)

Question:
Does anyone have experience with suitable surveillance software that they can recommend?
The cameras should record footage and, if possible, send push notifications to a phone at certain times.

Thanks in advance.

Where does one live that so many cameras are needed for surveillance?

14 cameras is not something a mini PC in the kitchen or a consumer NAS like Synology could handle. That would require a four-figure budget.
The NVR1218 can manage 12 cameras (as the name suggests); it costs around $250, with 1 GB of RAM and a 1 GHz 32-bit SoC. Using MotionEyeOS, multiple camera feeds can also be combined into one for the Surveillance Station. If you have some IT skills, you can also handle this entirely through a MotionEyeOS environment, possibly running on a home server solution.

- "Managing up to" 12 cameras is not the same as recording 14 cameras, possibly transcoding them, and applying motion detection
- the hard drives (over 500€) are not included
- the necessary licenses (500€) are missing

... and for all specifications in this area, please consider how many total frames per second the system can handle. This is usually where the limitations appear, especially if the system is inexpensive and lacks real processing power. Just search for "NVR advisor," first result. It provides a rough guideline on the computing power needed for different requirements. Your small ITX setup likely won’t be sufficient if you want more than just a few frames per second at moderate resolution. To actually recognize details, you need at least Full HD, if not 4K. If you want 14 cameras running at over 20 FPS, a Synology system like the RS1221+ or DS1621+ would be required.

The mentioned NVR1218, for example, can only process 100 frames per second at Full HD, which means with 14 cameras you would get roughly 7 FPS. You have to be okay with that.

Better said, feel the need to have them. 😎
“They” know that builders of new homes have nothing left to gain.

In the new development of upscale houses, of course, it looks different.

Thanks first of all for the help!
I will get in touch in about 2 weeks when the project begins.
@driver55
I agree with you 100%. In my case, even the Styrofoam for 300m2 (3,230 sq ft) was just left by the roadside for 4 weeks and nothing was taken away.
The cameras are more of a gadget for me rather than absolutely necessary. If I’m building myself, I guess I’m allowed to treat myself to a few extras, right?
Just like I treated myself to 3 kitchens and 3 bathrooms with showers.
But I also work 50 hours a week on construction alongside my regular job. Every evening from 5 to 10 pm plus Saturdays and Sundays.
I was just really enthusiastic about this project.
