Hello,
for preparing the building permit / planning permission documents, the developer asked us to obtain information about the snow load zone. Both the developer and the responsible municipality referred us to schneelast.info.
Unfortunately, accessing the data there requires an annual membership, which effectively means a cost of €65 for a single query.
How have other homeowners handled this?
Thank you!

Doc.Schnaggls27 May 2014 14:51Hello,
we simply consulted Aunt Google and looked up the snow load map according to DIN 1055-5.
Our building site was clearly located in snow load zone 2 according to this map.
It naturally becomes critical if one of the boundaries lies within your area…
However, an architect should be able to provide precise information, I think.
Where are you planning to build?
Best regards,
Dirk

I am surprised that such a request comes from your builder.
If the builder is responsible for the planning, it is, in my opinion, part of their duties (or those of the company’s in-house architect) to determine the applicable snow load zone and to take it into account correctly.
Have you hired an expert or a building owner protection association for your project to provide supervision? If so, they should be able to give you information on this quite quickly if you ask them politely.

Thank you for the responses. The architect will handle the calculation; the initial inquiry was only about communicating the zone. The municipality referred to the above-mentioned portal. I found the membership fee for a one-time query there to be not very helpful.
A map is available, as well as a list from the state of Baden-Württemberg for the Karlsruhe district. For those interested:
Karlsruhe district: Snow load zone 1: All municipalities, unless in zone 2
Snow load zone 2: Bretten, Karlsbad, Kürnbach, Marxzell, Oberderdingen, Sulzfeld, Zaisenhausen.
