ᐅ Smart Meter – Still Not a Standard Feature in New Construction?

On Monday, our electricity meter was installed (NetzeBW). Since this is a new build and we have installed a photovoltaic system and an air-to-water heat pump, I assumed that the network operator would automatically install the latest generation electricity meter—a smart meter. Not the case. A regular digital meter is installed in the electrical cabinet.
How is it with you? We would be willing to pay higher meter fees; that wouldn’t be an issue. However, we weren’t even offered a smart meter.
Do you have to specifically request a smart meter from the utility provider? Are there any additional costs involved?
Do smart meters have any disadvantages (apart from higher fees)?

Back to your question, your meter is a modern measuring device. If your utility provider already offers it, this can be upgraded to a smart metering system (smart meter).
However, you would need to have a very high consumption to offset the additional costs through optimization...
In the future, cheaper tariffs will likely be available with smart metering systems, which will help recover the extra costs more quickly. Thank you for the reply. I can’t estimate my electricity consumption yet. We are 2+2 people in the household. At the moment, we consume very little electricity in the apartment - under 2000 kWh (2000 kWh). I think in the house it will be at least 3500 kWh (3500 kWh) plus an air-to-water heat pump (KfW House 55). We will certainly not be below 6000 kWh (6000 kWh).
What is your electricity consumption for the air-to-water heat pump?

Daniel_9325 May 2023 14:41With an air-to-water heat pump, it can of course pay off faster. However, even here I would currently prefer to install an intermediate meter, costing about 100€ plus installation, with various interfaces for data analysis. 🙂

Bungalow about 1800 kWh per year.
