Hello dear forum community,
We are currently at the very beginning of planning the electrical system and are quite undecided about whether a smart home system (KNX, etc.) makes sense or not.
Our requirements are as follows:
- Control of blinds including a timer function
- Lighting control
- Video and intercom system, which should be installed in the basement, living/dining room, and hallway on the upper floor
- It does not necessarily need to be app-controlled, and if it is, it only needs to work when we are at home (the door does not need to be opened remotely via app)
- Motion sensors on stairs and hallways
- Dimmable lighting
Each room will also have a room thermostat. This does not necessarily need to be centrally controlled.
I have recently come across the GIRA System 3000. Does anyone have experience with it? From what I have read, it should cover all of the stated requirements. Have we forgotten anything essential that should definitely be considered?
Thank you very much for your experiences and assessments.
Best regards and have a nice evening

I wouldn’t even need an astronomical timer switch, a remote control, or any automatic system linked to specific conditions via smartphone or anything else. I just want to save the time of manually raising and lowering all the blinds every day. Ideally, a central switch in the hallway controlling 2–3 groups per floor, so I can press it and the group goes up or down, or maybe lowers to 3/4. It’s not as automatic or “smart” as scheduling by weekdays or even by the sun’s position, but it’s still much faster than doing everything manually. And if in the morning I know I’m leaving the house and it’s going to be very hot, I can just lower the blinds on the south side by 3/4 or so.
Setting up KNX for this? I mean, KNX itself requires a license and so on. There must be simpler solutions.

As I mentioned, separation relays are sufficient for your task. However, regarding future possibilities and potential new needs that may arise later, they might lead to a dead end.
KNX does not charge any license fees for the end user. You are mistaken on that point.
Otherwise, just choose a wireless system and cover almost everything with it.

KNX - MDT JAL actuator + MDT weather stationAre you using only the built-in logic or do you have an additional logic server, etc.? I have installed the same components but have not yet activated the automatic shading. What I would like is shading that depends on the outside and inside temperature. For that, I probably need a logic engine or something similar.H

When making decisions about the house, I always focus on ease of use for all age groups and less tech-savvy household members, and on minimizing the number of online data collectors running in the background while I simply live.

Thanks, Mycraft, I’ll probably tell the electrician that I’m leaning toward using isolator relays.

Therefore, all solutions for smartphones, etc., should be approached with caution (this does not mean they can’t also run smoothly). For this reason, I tend to avoid most so-called smart home products. The majority of what is marketed today actively collects data about the residents and their behavior, often bypassing security measures. Since everything is supposed to be controllable via proprietary apps, very few people know how to effectively prevent this and simply let everything run. Data breaches have, unfortunately, become quite common by now.
