Hello
we are currently planning our new semi-detached house
we have now reached the topic of video doorbells and security cameras
I have a few questions
Video doorbell:
which "smart" video doorbell can you recommend without monthly fees?
The video doorbell should have the following features:
When someone rings, there should be an audible signal inside the house (like a normal doorbell) and a notification should be sent to our smartphones
The video doorbell should also be seamlessly compatible with a smart door lock (e.g. Nuki) and it should work seamlessly together with the security cameras (all in one app)
At what height from the ground should the video doorbell be installed?
Which "smart" security cameras can you recommend? Should we choose the same manufacturer as the video doorbell?
Where should security cameras be installed?
Definitely one on the garage to cover the area next to the house.
Then only the entrance area would be left—do we still need an additional security camera at the entrance if we already have a video doorbell?
I have already looked and the big well-known brands like Ring (Amazon) and Nest (Google) all rely on cloud solutions with monthly subscriptions if you want all features
I have also seen Eufy (Anker) which works without cloud and monthly fees
What do you think of these brands or which ones would you recommend we check out?

What do you think about the brand Eufy Security, for example?
Or which Matter video doorbells and Matter security cameras would you recommend?
The recommendations from Mycraft were very expensive, so I wonder if that is really necessary.
What advantages do they have compared to Eufy or other similar products?

Chinese products with all their advantages and especially disadvantages. Can you really take any video streams seriously when it says "battery powered" at the same time? 2K resolution – are we still stuck in the 2000s?
Conclusion: A beginner’s toy for getting started, with the intention to upgrade to a proper system later.

Thanks for the quick responses.
I forgot to mention that we plan to set up a wireless smart home system later and want to wait for and adopt the new Matter standard.
Unfortunately, we don’t have the budget for KNX, and the builder’s electrician doesn’t want to install KNX either.
Does the electrician need to install anything special for a video doorbell (special cables), or can you simply remove the conventional doorbell later and install the video doorbell?
What kind of connections do the cameras require? Is just a power connection enough? If you’re building with a developer, try to persuade the electrician to install at least smart home–ready wiring for an additional cost. That means wiring power outlets and lights in a star topology. Switches (additionally, if needed) connected by bus cable—either an open ring for KNX, Loxone, or a star topology for more affordable DIY solutions that are also quite manageable. Recent discussions on this topic clearly show that this infrastructure is essential for a “proper” smart home. A wireless solution in a new build is like installing repeaters instead of access points in a new build—pointless (in my opinion).

karl.jonas14 Feb 2022 20:06If you decide to actually buy the Eufy, I would be very interested in hearing about your experience. I just looked at the description and the Amazon reviews for the Eufy 2C Pro. What is written there is hard to believe, and the many positive ratings are surprising. Searching for *** - reviews shows a more nuanced picture. In particular, I find the claims about battery life and all the AI talk to be misleading, but I’m happy to be proven wrong.
In new builds, as has already been mentioned, you should rely on wired connections. This is usually KNX (expensive) or Cat6. With Cat6, you should also have power supplied separately so you’re not dependent on PoE.
Wireless, especially Wi-Fi, is great for retrofitting and for those spots where you forgot to run cables. Matter is once again a hope for an open wireless standard, but you’ll probably have to wait a bit longer until there is a wider product selection.

Waiting is not a problem for now.
It will take about 1 year until the house is finished.
If you search on Google for video doorbells and security cameras, you only find the well-known brands like
Ring, Nest, Eufy, Netatmo...
For now, I just want to prepare everything that needs to be done; the smart home system will follow step by step in a few years.
Do you think Matter could become successful in a few years?
I need to talk to the electrician about what he can or wants to do, but unfortunately, that will take a few more weeks.

I don't think you can fit the Nuki in there.
