Hello everyone,

We are currently planning our single-family home on a (slight?) slope and originally wanted to include a basement apartment, utility room, and hobby room/office in the cellar.
However, as we already discussed in another thread, despite doing some of the work ourselves, we might not stay within budget, or the financial risk could increase significantly if we build a finished basement.
The planner we visited on-site more or less confirmed this but understandably cannot give us concrete maximum cost estimates for the basement given the current situation. His recommendation, for cost reasons, is to do without the basement, make the house slightly larger to accommodate the utility room and office, and use strip footings due to the slope.

But if I build a slightly larger house and need strip footings, that will also involve additional costs. If the basement ultimately costs “only” 50,000 more than the alternative, the cost-benefit ratio seems to favor the basement.

Since we now have to decide whether to build with or without a basement, I would like to hear your opinions. Perhaps you also have tips on how to estimate the cost difference for the basement reasonably well at this stage?

The slope is shown on the picture as a red arrow, running evenly across the plot.
The plot/driveway/house entrance should be at street level (so 2m [6.5 feet] higher).

The zoning plan can be found with the main search engine under “Einbeziehungssatzung_Gossersdorf_Flnr453_Textteil”.

I would always build with a basement if the budget allows it, especially if part of it can also be used as living space.
