Hello everyone,

we have received the draft design for our house from the builder. The gross floor areas (with a 1m (3.3 ft) knee wall) of the children’s rooms are 14m² (150 sq ft), and the master bedroom is 16m² (172 sq ft).

Is that sufficient? Somehow, I can’t really picture it and am feeling uncertain.

Thank you very much for your help!

You must have at least one room in your current apartment that is about the same size.

An area of 14m2 (150 square feet) is likely sufficient for 95% of people.

In new construction, rooms smaller than 14m2 (150 square feet) should generally be avoided.

...we currently live in the city in a 2-room apartment with 63 square meters (678 square feet)... Our bedroom is 19 square meters (204 square feet)... So, unfortunately, I don’t have a room of a similar size.
I am attaching a floor plan with measurements now...

Ground floor plan with master area, two children’s rooms, bathroom, hallway, and dressing room.

I would say the rooms are more than sufficient. We are also starting construction in the coming weeks and have chosen similar sizes for the children's bedrooms.

I don’t find the rooms small, and in my opinion, they are well designed.

I also find the size sufficient. However, I would suggest moving the door of the children's room opposite the bedroom so that there is 60cm (24 inches) of space behind the door, preventing the wardrobe from being in the way.

Two general comments on your floor plan:
Your guest/ironing room is actually the largest room on the upper floor. Is that really what you intended?
The children’s bedrooms face north. Again, the question is whether this is really what you want.

I would swap the room assignments. Possibly put the children’s bedrooms on the lower side of the plan (that way they won’t be disturbed by showering or similar, and you can reduce the room that then becomes the guest room a little bit).

That’s a good idea! However, I don’t see how one could make a room any larger or smaller, since there are windows everywhere...

But you are definitely right about the children’s bedrooms! Those will be the two at the bottom... Thanks in advance!
