Hello everyone,
I’m not building a house, but since I couldn’t find a better forum, I hope you can still help me.
Here’s the situation in the kitchen:
- I replaced the sink and the trap
- Since then, the water drains very slowly (a full basin takes 2-3 hours to empty)
- If water is poured directly into the wall drain, it drains normally
- If the trap is not connected to the wall but drains into a bucket, the water also drains normally
- Before the renovation, everything worked perfectly
What am I overlooking?
Thank you very much for your help!

Have the drainage pipe cleaned and flushed. It’s clear.
1. The water drains easily when I pour it directly into the wall drain.
2. It hasn’t worked since installing the new IKEA system.

My father said to let professionals handle water and electricity. I would agree with that, but with some limitations. To connect a new ceiling light, I don’t need an electrician, and to connect a trap, I don’t need a plumber. When you reinstall your computer, you don’t call an IT specialist either.
Tomorrow I will buy a standard trap at the hardware store. If the water drains with that, IKEA will get this stuff back. If it doesn’t drain, I’ll give up and let the "professional" handle it.
Hello, I had a similar problem with the IKEA set. In my case, it was due to the siphon being installed incorrectly. I have a kind of hose that I had to cut significantly to ensure the water drains properly. I think if you make some adjustments to the IKEA setup, you will get the desired result.

Are you sure?
How much water do you pour into the drain without a trap? Is it the same amount that goes into the kitchen sink?
How much time passed between removal and installation?

- if the trap is not connected to the wall (draining into a bucket), the water drains normally My initial thought is that the flow seems to be self-restricting (meaning it creates a backlog and works against its own spring stiffness), but even in this strange setup, I don’t see enough volume to cause that. Is this drainage rate constant—that is, no faster start or a final “plop”—and does the amount of about a cup really take several minutes to drain?
Does it make a difference for the phenomenon whether you just pull the plug or also create a swirl?
