ᐅ Single-family house floor plan optimization: hallways too narrow and long, saving square meters, staircase to the attic

JoMIBaGaHello everyone,
we are planning our single-family house and would ideally like to end up with about 180 m² (1,938 sq ft) of living space (currently it is 189 m² (2,034 sq ft) over two floors without sloped ceilings). The ground floor includes a utility/technical/storage room, kitchen, dining room, living room, office, and hallway. The upper floor has a master bedroom with dressing area, family bathroom, shower room with washing machine niche, two children’s rooms, and an office/third children’s room.
Ground floor:
- The office is intended to be possibly used later as an apartment.
Upper floor:
- The hallway on the upper floor is quite narrow, long, and dark.
- We are not yet satisfied with the dressing area/master bedroom layout.
- Is it possible to add a second staircase to the attic?
We are generally open to ideas and suggestions.
Thank you very much!

nordanney4 Jul 2025 21:59Sorry. I would scrap the entire floor plan. All the rooms have angles, the bathroom drainage is in the middle of the living room, the exterior view with windows and doors? I don’t like it at all.
You should upload the floor plan along with the questionnaire. If I’m spending 750,000 (currency) on a house, I’d have an architect do it.

I can only agree with @nordanney. Also, you are in the wrong forum section; you should start a thread in the https://www.hausbau-forum.de/forums/grundrissplanung-grundstuecksplanung.237/ area. But be sure to read https://www.hausbau-forum.de/threads/grundriss-planung-unbedingt-vor-beitrag-erstellung-lesen.11714/ first and include the relevant information in your new thread.
