You nailed it. Should I turn on the bedroom light every time my girlfriend is still sleeping just because I forgot something?
That’s exactly the point of having a dedicated room.

Where else would you wash your hands after gardening, working on the car, or similar activities?

The great thing about a walk-in closet with a window is that you at least have natural light in the summer. Otherwise, you can use shelf lighting, which is very subtle but provides enough light in these cases. So, I only occasionally face low-light situations, like when I get up before my partner—not every time I need to go in.
You don’t get significantly more dust there either. In our storage room, I don’t have more or less dust than in my bedroom, and the kids jump on the bed there.

We wash our hands at the well pump or alternatively at the outdoor water tap. I’d rather not walk through the garage with dirty feet just to wash my hands.

Can't the sink be placed in the utility room? You might need one there anyway because of condensation from the dryer.

I see absolutely no problem with the sink.
I moved it higher up, and it works for me.
Especially since it was done the same way at friends of ours’.

Where is the wardrobe for 4 people supposed to go, actually?

To the left of the door.
Shoes go on a shelf under the built-in staircase.
The question is more about where you will store all your jackets, coats, and seasonal clothing. You will likely have more than one jacket in use, for example, a simple one for work, a nice coat for the cinema, a raincoat for walks, fleece for gardening, and a sports jacket for outdoor activities. All of this for 1, 2, 3, or 4 people—in the wardrobe. Easily accessible. The same applies to shoes: the muddy pair, the leather pair, the insulated ones, dress shoes, trainers, rubber boots. The kids tend to have more of the first kind, while Mrs. Pömps has ballerinas, flip-flops, ankle boots, tall boots, sneakers...
And you probably own more than one pair, too. Shoes go under the staircase, but the jackets do not...

Yes, it is not ideal, but I don’t see any other option.

I will now continue with my own construction plans and no longer use those from the architect.
ops: Wait, are you proceeding without the architect now?

You say that often – so is this something to just accept and leave unresolved for the rest of your life?
The coats and shoes will all end up in the office anyway – because the space has to be there, whether you plan for it or not. You can’t just leave it out.

The winter coats could go in the space under the stairs; just put in a rod – and you have a wardrobe.
If you make the decision to move the front door, I could also imagine adding a closet and a shoe cabinet by the stairs:
