ᐅ Silicone Resin or Emulsion Paint – Which Is Better for Interior Walls?

We are about to move into our 8-year-old condominium and currently have painting quotes on the table to have the entire interior of the 4.5-room apartment repainted white. The walls have a rough plaster finish and are white in good condition. The paint could probably last another 1-2 years without needing a new coat, but since the apartment will be empty anyway, it would be nice for it to feel "fresher."

Now that we have the quotes from painters, I notice that the cheaper offers usually specify silicone resin paint, while the more expensive ones mostly use interior dispersion paint.

Painting costs, compared to the purchase price of the apartment, are almost negligible, so I don’t want to save in the wrong place. Could someone advise me on which type of paint is best to use for standard interior rooms?

Inside, we have done the same so far.

Thank you for your feedback. Overall, it confirms my opinion regarding the colors and the craftsmen.

We had two on site, both would use emulsion paint. The other offers "from the internet" (but also from local, trained painters) were mixed; as soon as it got a bit cheaper, silicone resin instead of emulsion was used.

I always use dispersion paints when I paint.
And why? In your own property? Don’t you want your wall to “breathe”...?

"Breathes"? Why is that, what is living inside your wall?

He says that his silicate paints absorb moisture and release it again. That is correct. Emulsion paints block moisture.
But in our heated houses, whose windows are sealed with SigaCrall and prevent any air entry, I might actually prefer that no additional moisture is absorbed from the air. Generally, modern houses tend to be too dry anyway. The fact is: living in rooms with emulsion paints is also very comfortable.

What does that have to do with “ownership”?

Dispersion paint is breathable.
... maybe your walls breathe. Mine don’t. Because walls can’t breathe. They’re just fine with their/my coatings. Everything fits. Works fine.
