Hello,

In our hallway, a ceiling soffit of about 2.2 m² (1.6m x 1.6m / 5.25 ft x 5.25 ft) was planned, which the contractor has now significantly reduced to a small piece measuring 60 cm x 10 cm (24 inches x 4 inches).

I am basically fine with this, but I would like to request some reimbursement for the reduced effort the contractor has as a result.

What do you think I can reasonably ask for so that it is still attractive for the builder to carry out the soffit in a smaller size? (I would then say: Please reimburse X amount or proceed as originally planned)

Thanks!

I would estimate the possible amount to be quite low since the effort involved is not significantly different, and the material value is also not particularly high. The question is whether it really makes sense to request a refund. Of course, fewer metal studs and fewer drywall sheets are needed, but the cost difference is probably negligible.

The effort? I think a professional could build something like that in about an hour. Just because the enclosure is smaller doesn’t necessarily mean there will be a significant time saving. So, I wouldn’t expect much from that!

The box has already been made in a smaller size, which means they would need to come back and build the whole thing larger according to the plan. We were only asked whether we want to keep it as it was made (including photo) or according to the plan.

Okay! So the question is, which option do you prefer visually? However, I assume the refund would not be very much, so either you like it as is or you proceed according to the original plan. I don’t think it would be more than €50 (about $54) at most, if anything. It might depend on the exact situation.

You must be glad that it’s getting smaller, right?
Do you really want to risk ending up with the larger boxed-in area again just over 20 euros?

Hello

I can only agree with that.
