I had to rephrase the headline because it exceeded the allowed character limit.

I’m curious if there is anyone here in the forum who still plans to sign a construction contract this year in order to avoid the price increase coming into effect on January 1st. What does your contract say, and what aspects did you pay attention to? Do you still feel well advised?

The information that most construction companies will raise their prices on January 1st has meanwhile been confirmed by an expert in prefabricated house construction.

We will also sign this week, although we would have done so even without the "imminent" price increase. We still had enough lead time to negotiate the contract, payment schedule, and scope of work with the general contractor.

I think those are slightly different conditions, but it is still exciting to take the next step.

Sign only if you have gained clarity and truly want to. Otherwise, do not. These are the only true measures.

Do not sign anything until everything is finalized.

Depending on how strongly the price increase argument is pushed, that would be the end of the general contractor (GC) for me.

I vaguely remember the end of November/beginning of December 2015. The meeting was just about signing. Open questions were not addressed at all. It was more important for them to sell a private health insurance. After that, the GC did not contact us anymore.

Let’s be honest. Yes, almost everyone has price increases starting January 1st. But does the groundbreaking happen one day earlier if you sign now and clarify everything later, or if everything is clarified first and then you sign?

I completely agree. Over the past few weeks, we have had several aspects changed that would have otherwise been very disadvantageous for us. I don’t think the general contractor would have agreed to these changes afterward.

So don’t rush things; small oversights can end up costing you more than a possible price increase.
