Hello everyone,

We recently bought an old terraced house, and I’m now working on renovating the upstairs bathroom (about 2m x 2m (6.5ft x 6.5ft)). My approach so far has been: grab the hammer drill and remove everything that can be taken out.

The wall tiles and part of the floor tiles are now removed, and I’m facing two challenges. I have to admit, I have very little experience with this kind of work.

1. There used to be a shower in this small bathroom. Accordingly, there is still a fixture, see picture 1. How do I remove it? Turning off the water is obvious. Then it looks like there are two “rings” on the back of the fixture that might have internal threads. So, does the pipe coming out of the wall probably have external threads, and would I need some kind of “cap nut” to permanently close it off? Please excuse my lack of knowledge.

2. The floor will be retiled after removing the old tiles, and I’m going to give it a try myself. Now please take a look at the picture. The orange arrows probably point to the old tile adhesive, which needs to be removed. Is the surface that the light blue arrow points at already the screed? And does the green arrow point to a hole in the screed? Or could that be an intermediate layer, with the actual screed still beneath?

I know these are basic questions, but I would be very grateful for any suggestions!

Christian
