From time to time, a repair is needed, but you don’t feel like investing a lot of time or money. Creative inventiveness can lead to some unusual ideas that turn out to work and last longer than expected. Has anyone done something like this and wants to share with others?

I’ll start with my awning repair – after more than 30 years, the cording came loose, and I didn’t feel like sewing or replacing it. Paper clips have now served their purpose for nearly 6 meters (20 feet) of the old awning for 10 years, giving it a unique and cheerful touch. (Maybe someone has a cleaning tip – for a long time, the awning shared the east wall with wild grapevine, which interfered with the color pattern.)

Here’s an idea for anyone tired of finding snails in their homegrown lettuce. Simply plant the lettuce in a gutter attached to a wall.

In addition to lettuce, we also harvest strawberries.

Green lettuce plants in long planter boxes along a red brick wall next to a fence.
