ᐅ Should you apply primer before painting with lime gypsum plaster?

annab377Hello everyone,
We want to paint the children's rooms first because we are expecting a baby soon. Now the question is, for a new build with lime gypsum plaster, do you need to apply a primer first, or can you paint directly with standard white emulsion paint? For the first coat, should we use a store-brand paint and then apply a higher-quality white paint for the second coat?
Or is it better to skip the primer and just paint twice: first with cheap white paint everywhere, then with a better quality white or color?
I read online that primer should not be mixed with emulsion paint. Actually, a friend suggested mixing a bit of primer into the cheap paint for the first coat.
Is primer even necessary on lime gypsum plaster? 🙄
How have you handled this? 😉
Thanks and best regards
