casablanca145 Apr 2014 14:32Hello everyone,
I need your help!!
Here’s the problem:
The interior plastering in our new build was completed back in January 2014, except for the staircase to the first floor and the front door, as these had not yet been installed. It was supposed to be "touched up" later. The invoice for the interior plastering was also paid in January.
Now, a separate invoice for the staircase and door has arrived, amounting to €238, with the explanation that it is common practice for these areas not to be included. This was never mentioned in any of the preliminary talks or communicated in writing.
Does anyone have experience with this? Is this separation and separate billing legitimate, or is the company trying to take advantage of us?
What should we do or what options do we have?
Thanks in advance for your answers!!

In my opinion, such a procedure would make sense – once a service has been provided, it should be invoiced accordingly. If only part of the service has been completed, then the invoice should reflect this partial completion. This should also be clearly indicated on the invoice. Stretching the billing over several years (to take it to an extreme) can become very difficult for the contractor eventually. The opposite approach of 'billing the entire amount upfront and delivering later' is also not ideal...

casablanca145 Apr 2014 16:31There were a total of 2 invoices. The first was a progress invoice, and the description on the second one was "completion of work," even though the stair area was not finished yet.
From my perspective, this can only mean that it includes all walls, so also the stairs and the door, which would make the third invoice completely nonsense. Or????
