It’s me again. We are considering adding a niche in the shower for shampoo and similar items. Does anyone have experience with the pros and cons? Since we will have a glass partition, the squeegee would still need to be stored elsewhere because it won’t fit in the niche.
Technically, the niche can only be installed on the rear wall of the shower, where the faucet would also be mounted. In this case, only a concealed installation would be possible, as the shower bar would otherwise be in the way. Now I’m thinking, if something breaks, you wouldn’t be able to access the concealed faucet at all. Does that make sense, or would you rather skip the niche and install a standard exposed shower faucet?
Thanks for your opinions!

We decided against recessed shelves because I think they’re hard to clean. We now have metal baskets that I can easily remove and wash. So far, they haven’t rusted. My wife decided to shave her head because washing her hair takes too long and now she wears a turban :p
I only eat bread now because cooking always dirties the pots.
Honestly, are you really going to skip a neat recessed shelf just because you occasionally have to wipe it down?

Honestly, is it really worth giving up a stylish niche just because you occasionally have to wipe it down? Unless the niche ends up like a soap dish tile 😉

Niches here and niches there… honestly, these things can make a space inflexible. Maybe even with LED lighting? Great, now you have another light to fail. House interiors all look the same these days.I wouldn’t avoid including the niche just because everyone else does it. You could make the same argument about wall-mounted toilets. 😀
There’s probably a good reason why so many people do it.
Regarding the claim that they are "hard to clean," I’ve remained silent so far due to lack of personal experience, since we had them professionally cleaned at the time. However, I never heard any complaints about that. Also, over time, they never became noticeably dirty in terms of appearance. After all, they are tiles, and they’re flat, and we never left soap sitting around openly. So, they didn’t really provide much opportunity to get dirty.

We included a niche with LED lighting because I wanted it. LEDs are a nice extra and not essential—it’s just a luxury, like many other luxuries you might have but don’t necessarily need. I had it done in electrical installation and only for that reason; if it had cost me 400€ etc., it wouldn’t have been included. 🙂
I like our niches and, for example, chose not to have them flush-mounted. So, everyone can decide how they prefer it. 🙂
