Hello dear forum community,

I have a question. Yesterday, I looked at a rental apartment in the city that has a very small garden. The building is oriented along the north-south axis, and the little garden is located directly on the west side. The garden is bordered on the south side by a tall hedge. However, residential buildings with about five floors are currently being constructed on the property behind the apartment, just to the west, at a distance of approximately 30-40m (100-130 feet). Can I expect to still get afternoon sunlight in the garden, or will it be shaded all the time? Perhaps someone has experience with a similar situation.

A response would be very helpful, thank you in advance!

Kind regards,
Gibi

Of course, that depends entirely on the time of year and time of day. In winter at 3 PM, definitely not; in summer at 12 PM, certainly yes.

The key term is "solar elevation angle" or "solar altitude angle."
