Hello dear home building community,

we have completed our house construction and are about to move in. Now my electrician asked me how I want to program my roller blinds and shading in general. The floor plan is very open with lots of window area, and the house faces south.
How have you handled this? Are there any tables or guidelines on how to program this for summer and winter?
Thank you in advance for your input.
Regards,
Matthias

Every house is different, as are the preferences of its occupants, so tables are more or less pointless. I think I have already written somewhere about how it is for us.

Parameters that have an impact include:

Outside temperature
Inside temperature
Window position
Window function
Sun intensity from the east/south/west
Time of day
Occupancy
etc.

Our windows are oriented toward the sun from spring to autumn. I eventually turned off the automatic winter settings because, in practice, you just press the button where it is needed.

Where there are no doors (on the ground floor leading to the garden), our venetian blinds automatically lower when exposed to sunlight and adjust the slats to "2/3 closed" if the room temperature exceeds the setpoint by a certain amount and the sun is shining into the room (yes, the issue with the doors could be resolved, but I prefer not to). Otherwise, the blinds in the living room close when the TV or another video source is turned on, and the room or corner is too bright. Finally, there is a “house off” or “away” mode = everything closed (with a few exceptions based on presence detection) and vice versa. I had many more ideas and fun automations, but anything beyond what I just described ended up being more or less annoying.

How do you manage that? TV connected to KNX?

Edomi, FHEM, switched socket, Linux receiver, scenes—there are many options.
