Hello

we are currently in the middle of our move. It’s really surprising what kind of junk and especially scrap metal you find. My girlfriend said yesterday that there must be some way to sell all this stuff for a bit of profit. Of course, I immediately looked and found a scrap yard on Bitterfelderstraße 23 here in Berlin.

General question: Does anyone here know if it’s worth selling scrap metal? Has anyone done this before? If so, what were your experiences?

Thank you very much for your answers

Hello

Just take the stuff there.
If you’re not selling copper or similar materials in significant quantities,
it’s not worth spending hours fretting over it.

Herzbergstrasse 35 is also one... I once unloaded a full T4 van with metal sheets there... it was about 50 euros...

I don’t have experience with this, but I have had some contact with it.

That makes sense and is better than having the local utility company collect it without any compensation.

Usually, you can just pack it up and take it there yourself. If it’s a larger amount, they might come and pick it up. I can’t tell you right now whether you need to show an ID for small quantities, but it’s better to bring one just in case.

Scrap prices are currently very low, so you won’t get much for it (but at least you get rid of the stuff).

We have a recycling center operated by a company. As a resident of the municipality, I can dispose of my waste there free of charge.
Waste that can be reused, such as scrap metal, wood, paper, etc., is recycled by the recycling center operator, who then pays the municipality for it. What do I personally gain from this? The waste collection fees for all residents in the municipality are reduced as a result.

If there’s a lot of material, you can also have a container delivered.
When we cleared out an old factory owned by my in-laws, we managed over 7 tons (7,000 kg) in one weekend. 😀 It was a nice extra income, even though I was exhausted afterward.
With just some sheet metal, though, it won’t be much.
