Hello, we are planning to build a single-family house on our own......
Planned size 150 sqm (1,615 sq ft) without a basement, gable roof with raised knee wall.
To achieve KfW 55 standard, my understanding is that a U-value of 0.20 is required. How can I most cost-effectively achieve this with a single-layer wall of 365mm (14 inches) thickness? Noise protection can largely be neglected.

Can he do that, or does he recommend a building planner or something? I don’t want an architect... it should be a simple rectangular house without anything else.Well, you really can’t build a house that easily without those things (at least in Germany). Structural calculations don’t just appear out of nowhere...

Have you already spoken with a certified energy efficiency consultant? You need one anyway to apply for the subsidy. Not necessarily. For KFW 55, there is a simplified verification process. If certain U-values for the roof, walls, windows, etc. are met and specific heating systems are installed, a calculated verification is no longer required.

KfW states:
"An energy-efficient new building requires thorough professional planning and qualified supervision during construction. For the planning, application, and execution of a subsidized project, an expert is required to support the builder."
I thought that even if you comply with the reference values, you cannot certify yourself that the house meets KfW xx standards.
