Hello dear forum members,

I have the opportunity to take over my grandmother’s old former mining company house (about 90 years old, semi-detached) in Essen. If I decide to do so, a lot of renovation would be needed, and an extension would have to be added since the current living space is not sufficient.

I need advice from an "expert" who can answer the following questions during a site visit, so I can decide whether to keep the house or sell it.

1. What sale price could be expected if the house were sold?

2. Renovation plus extension, or demolition (if that is even possible for a semi-detached house) and rebuilding?

3. Regarding point 2, a rough cost estimate would of course be very helpful.

Who can I contact for such advice? Do architects or appraisers provide this kind of service? How do I find such an "expert"?

Does anyone know roughly what such a consultation might cost?

Many thanks!

Best regards

Try searching online for "independent surveyors" or "association of surveyors" and you should find help 😉 The cost depends on the scope of the agreed service; you will need to negotiate this directly with the expert you trust.
