Hello,
I recently came across an article about security vulnerabilities in alarm systems. A test was conducted by the computer magazine "c't."
Here is the link to the T-Online article:
xxx.t-online.de/computer/sicherheit/id_78225036/einbrueche-smarte-alarmanlagen-helfen-einbrechern-statt-eigentuemern.html
The article can also be found on Google using the keywords:
"T-Online security vulnerability alarm systems"
In this context, I would also like to point out something else I saw recently (June 14, 2016) on television:
An inventor (owner of a security technology company) presented a new/improved alarm system.
If interested, please search on Google for:
"MDR Einfach genial inventions security system photo trap"
There you will find a report as well as a video about the invention.
I thought the idea was simply brilliant.

They take advantage of some readers' lack of knowledge and create unnecessary fear.
Anyone using "admin1234" or any other simple password for important accounts is to blame themselves.
But finding a house just by an IP address is the biggest nonsense I have ever heard. Maybe a professional can do that, but certainly not a stranger.

What surprised me about the article was the reaction of the manufacturers. I mean: A natural response here would be—as you said—"Of course, the customer must choose a strong password (or in other words: Anyone who is that careless...)." But they said they probably need to improve their systems themselves.
I really like this invention. Gröni keeps coming to mind: "It could be so simple, but it isn’t." 😎
