Hello everyone,

I have a KALLAX shelf unit from IKEA and would like to secure it better against slipping, especially on smooth floors like laminate or tile. My main concern is preventing it from tipping over, as the unit is quite tall and may occasionally hold some weight.

So my question to the community is: Are there any specific anti-slip pads that fit well under KALLAX shelves? Important factors for me are size, adhesive strength, and whether they can be removed cleanly without leaving residue.

So far, I have only found general anti-slip pads online, none specifically sized for KALLAX or that are larger or custom-fit. Are there any recommended products or tips for secure attachment?

Thanks for your detailed opinions and experiences!

Hello keplo,

Regarding “anti-slip pads specifically for KALLAX”: As far as I know, there are no official pads offered by IKEA that are precisely sized for the KALLAX shelving unit. However, universal anti-slip pads work very well.

They come in various sizes, usually as square or round rubber feet. It is important to place the pads at the four corners to create a stable base. The adhesion is generally very good if the mounting surfaces are clean and free of grease.

Many users also opt for self-adhesive foam rubber strips or felt pads with rubber backing, depending on how smooth the floor is. Just make sure the pads are not too soft, as they might compress over time.

If you want to be on the safe side, here is an example of larger rectangular anti-slip pads that are more stable than small felt gliders.

If you like, I can also recommend manufacturers I personally use.

I'll add a brief note:

Most anti-slip pads work based on material friction – typically rubber or silicone. Especially for Kallax, which is relatively lightweight and often placed in kitchens or living rooms, these pads are very effective at preventing sliding.

Important: If the Kallax shelf is loaded with heavy items or even climbed on (e.g., by children), anchoring it to the wall should be considered. The pads prevent sliding but do not necessarily stop tipping when lateral forces are applied.

For installation: Place the shelf where it should stand, then thoroughly clean the floor surface underneath using alcohol or a mild cleaner to remove any dust or grease that might reduce adhesion. Next, stick on the pads and press them firmly.

If the pads do not fit exactly, you can trim them. Many can be easily cut to size with scissors.

Thank you, that already answers my second question regarding purpose-fit IKEA products.

That’s a good point. I was planning to partly fill the shelf with heavy books. Wall mounting is considered, but I would like to explore the combination of pads and other methods.

Are there recommendations for anti-slip pads that are particularly load-bearing? For example, for 20–30 kg (44–66 lbs) per corner? Or is the use of secure fixing methods (e.g., brackets attached to the wall) unavoidable in any case?

Hey keplo! 🙂

I used self-adhesive silicone pads under my KALLAX and I’m really happy with the results – no more slipping, even when our dog bumps into it, everything stays firmly in place.

These pads are durable, and I placed two pads on each corner for extra stability.

But honestly, if you’re putting really heavy items in there, I wouldn’t underestimate the importance of securing the unit to the wall – safety comes first, especially with taller shelves.

Also: Unfortunately, Ikea doesn’t offer custom-cut pads for KALLAX, but you can find these silicone pads almost anywhere, usually at hardware stores or online under terms like “anti-slip pads transparent” or “silicone furniture feet.”

Simply stick four thick rubber feet under the corners.
Clean, press down, done. Sticks well and also protects the floor.
